A succulent palate of passionfruit and minerality leads to a gentle finish of gooseberry and lime.
The nose is elegant and reveals aromas of grapefruit and passionfruit.PalateA succulent palate of passionfruit and minerality leads to a gentle finish of gooseberry and lime.Food MatchingServe chilled, great with a wide variety of seafood dishes.Winemaking NoteThe juice was fermented using a number of selected yeast strains and at a range of temperatures, to enable us to capture a spectrum of flavour and aroma profiles. We then matured this Sauvignon on its yeast lees before selecting the best tanks to blend together to achieve a wine of balanced palate weight, character and interest.
Petar Fredatovich set sail from his homeland in Croatia on the shores of the Adriatic to discover a new and prosperous life in a distant land.
In New Zealand he found a land rich with promise and vast opportunities.Arriving in Auckland in 1922 with few possessions, Petar worked in the Kauri tree gum fields and as a stone mason to save for a deposit on a block of land west of the city at the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges. Petar cleared his land by hand and planted vines. Barrels were hand-made from local native Totara trees to ferment his wine.
In 1937 he established his winery. The winery was eventually passed to his son, Peter D Fredatovich, who planted more vineyards and expanded the winery. Peter's efforts saw him awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 1989 for services to New Zealand wine. Peter D Fredatovich is recognised as one of the pioneers of the modern New Zealand wine industry.
In 1988 current Managing Director Peter M Fredatovich took over the management of the business from his father.
Distant land Vintners is proud to remain family owned and operated by the third and fourth generation Peter Fredatovich 70 years after the establishment of their winery.
