Tyrrell's `Steven's` Semillon 2014 (6 x 750mL), Hunter Valley, NSW.

Description:

Stevens Semillon was the first wine in what we now know as our single vineyard range.

The fruit is taken from Neil Stevens’ Glenoak vineyard. It shares the same ancient age as our other semillon vineyards but the unique character of this vineyard is the soil. Unlike our other semillon vineyards that feature light, sandy loams, the Stevens vineyard features a combination of light sandy loams as well as a transitional darker, heavier soil. The hallmark of this vineyard is always the intense citrus lift with its almost Riesling-like mineral edge. The palate is tightly bound and has a fruit profile that is tight, elegant, and impeccably long.

Expert Reviews

Perky young fruit driven nose, almost peachy, lemony and well rounded. It sports plenty of juicy flavour (in the context of Hunter Sem), fine acidity, and very good length. Crunchy juicy finish, that, when compared with the other 2014 Tyrrell’s Semillons, is slightly rugged and coarse; time will revolve such minor quibbles. Strong release. More to come. Rated 93 by Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

Pale green to gold in colour.

Aroma/Palate

The aroma is acombination of classic lime citrus fruit complexed by a hint oftoasty development. The palate is just starting to show the benefitsof bottle age, with honeyed, toasty notes emerging from a soft,well-rounded structure. As always with this style, the wine retainsits tight minerally backbone and finishes with a clean, refreshingmouth-feel.
