Wine Background
Officially and legally part of wine-growing Burgundy, the Beaujolais region has a distinct identity and well-developed style. It thus wins recognition in its own right. There are no linear slopes here; instead we find a multifaceted patchwork of hills and valleys that give infinite possibilities for exposure to the sun.
Due to their nature and complexity, the soils provide a perfectly adapted terrain for Gamay to unearth and express its vocation. Trustworthy and devoted, this grape variety with drooping vegetation has nuance and precision competing with each other in an effort to enchant our taste buds. The result is beautifully expressive Beaujolais.
Winemaking Notes
Beaujolais vinification must have intact grapes to allow intracellular fermentation within a CO² saturated environment. Well known and recognised under the name "carbonic maceration" this process requires that the grapes must be undamaged. The crop is therefore manually harvested and undergoes neither crushing nor de-stemming.
Blason de Bourgogne
The Union of Blasons de Bourgogne was formed when four of the largest cooperatives in Burgundy joined forces, to pool resources and expertise and bring together Burgundian wine-growers from the various appellations of Burgundy. In 2002, they launched the hugely successful Blason de Bourgogne wine brand, which has since gone from strength to strength. In 2006 a fifth co-operative, Cave des Hautes-Côtes, joined the Union.
The aim of the Blason de Bourgogne brand was to make Burgundy understandable to consumers; the name Burgundy is synonymous with quality wine for many consumers, but few have a proper understanding of the different villages, vineyards, producers, negotiants and cooperatives.
The styles of the wines are in keeping with tradition - the aim is not to make New World style wines, but to offer consistent quality across all the wines in the range. Quality is paramount, as the Blason group knew that keeping their customers was as important as attracting them in the first place.
