Blason de Bourgogne Mâcon Rosé 2009(6 x 750mL), AOC Mâcon, Burgundy, France

Description:

Between the Côte Chalonnaise region and the Rock of Solutré, the hills of the Mâconnais region extend for some 40 kilometres, edged by the rivers of the Saône and Grosne. The relief here with its ochre colours and that special luminosity, dotted with houses covered with rounded roof tiles creates an atmosphere that is almost Mediterranean.

It is sure that the Mâconnais region deserves its title of « Burgundy of the South » and Blasons de Bourgogne

takes us there in a very natural way with this beautifully coloured, appealing wine that is full of sunshine.

Tasting Notes

Grape Varietal

Gamay 100%

Colour

Its candy pink colour immediately evokes the coral in the reef.

Aroma

The bouquet gives a direct impact of purity, due for the most part, to its intensity. There is a marvellous arrangement of bracing citrus aromas (grapefruit and lemon) blended with captivating red fruits notes such as

raspberry and cherry.

Palate

In the mouth the palate is put on the alert. While the first impression is supple, round and fleshy, there is a finely acidulated freshness in the finish that seems to answer the opening notes as an echo. This aromatic finesse, inspired by an airy refreshing quality, perfectly finishes the simple, very sensual, pleasure of the tasting.

Food Matching

aperitifs, grilled meats, Asian cuisine, charcuterie, mixed salads, cakes, clafoutis, apple tart.

Winemaking Notes

A product of direct pressing after harvest, this rosé benefits from the rigorous selection of fruit from plots favouring the production of a pure and direct expression of the grapes. Temperature controlled vats allow perfect fermentation management, thus permitting the “capture” of the aromatic potential of the fruit.

Brand Profile Image

Blason de Bourgogne

The Union of Blasons de Bourgogne was formed when four of the largest cooperatives in Burgundy joined forces, to pool resources and expertise and bring together Burgundian wine-growers from the various appellations of Burgundy. In 2002, they launched the hugely successful Blason de Bourgogne wine brand, which has since gone from strength to strength. In 2006 a fifth co-operative, Cave des Hautes-Côtes, joined the Union.

The aim of the Blason de Bourgogne brand was to make Burgundy understandable to consumers; the name Burgundy is synonymous with quality wine for many consumers, but few have a proper understanding of the different villages, vineyards, producers, negotiants and cooperatives.

The styles of the wines are in keeping with tradition - the aim is not to make New World style wines, but to offer consistent quality across all the wines in the range. Quality is paramount, as the Blason group knew that keeping their customers was as important as attracting them in the first place.

The co-operatives

  • Vignerons des Terres Secrètes
  • Caves des Vignerons de Buxy
  • La Chablisienne
  • Caves de Bailly
  • La Cave des Hautes-Côtes.
