Expert Review

This blend great Aussie secret and to get one with bottle age. Smells absolutely in the zone with mellow regional aromas of cooked plum and subtle clove like Grandmothers homemade plum sauce with black liquorice in in the background. It’s warm and ripe plumy and earthy all at the same time.Soft plump and obvious it’s all middle palate with plum sauce on the finish, great BBQ or with hoisin sauce and a dish of pork.Robert Geddes MW (MAR/2011)

Tasting Notes

Colour

The appearance is deep garnet red with long viscous legs and dark cherry red hues.AromaThe bouquet is rich and intense with a complex array of ripe fruit characters mingling with perfumed spice, toasty oak and polished timber. The hallmark of truly Grand Barossa wines is the multi dimensional elements that continue to unfold as it opens up in the glass.PalateThe opening palate is packed with dark berries and earthy spice which gradually evolves as complex secondary characters come forward. Gamey, savoury characters are followed by chocolate, mocha and hints of licorice spice. The abundance of flavour is supported by an equally robust tannin and acid structure with good weight and generous mouth-feel. It’s a timeless wine of generous proportion, with great depth and length of palate.Food MatchingThis is a genuine example of the richness and intensity of this traditional Barossa blend, it is best enjoyed with equally flavoursome dishes like aged, thick cut rib eye or fillet steak and it’s ideal as an after dinner match with a selection of tasty cheeses, nuts and dried fruits.Cellaring PotentialPeter Jorgensen’s Premium Reserve wines are selected for longevity and depth of character. This Grand Barossa GSM, a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre will stand the test of time, age for many years to come and continue to develop chocolate and mocha flavours. With over 6 years age it has already become perfectly rounded and balanced.

GraysOnline Tasting Panel

Chocolate and coconut, sour cherry on the nose. Big ripe fruit on the back palate, good complexity and a plenty of flavours. Warm alcohol keeps going. A big fat red with less tannin and smooth texture.

Winery Information

The “Premium Reserve” label is allocated to only the most outstanding wines. Peter Jorgensen hand selects truly premium, benchmark wine with rich fruit intensity, complex flavours and structure combined with their long term aging ability. All Premium Reserve wines are an expression of excellent vineyard management and winemaking. The resulting wines are extremely limited and are treated with minimal filtration and additives which result in great length and balance. They are wines that often take time to evolve and are given extended cellar maturation to allow all elements to become integrated before bottling. The aging process will continue in bottle and each wine will develop a light crust over time. Please allow this wine to breathe for at least 30 minutes prior to consuming.

We hope you enjoy this great wine.
