The essence of this wine is big McLaren Vale fruit with robust, earthy complexity and gripping tannins.
Colour
Deep red colour.
Aroma
Ripe cherry and plum fruit flavours and complex savoury characters of mocha, tobacco and leather.
Palate
Vintage 2008 was hot which meant Shiraz achieved very high ripeness levels producing monster wines with robust flavour, big tannin and high alcohol. To bring this into balance we’ve used lots of American oak to give sweet vanillin spice and smoky, savoury elements. This wine is a generous mouthful of flavour now but it has the potential to mature for many years.
About Us
Originally established in 1988, our Hunter vineyards and winery are located overlooking the Hunter River at Luskintyre in Australia's oldest wine region.
Over many generations grape growers and winemakers have identified the crucial input of vineyard location in contributing to flavour development in their wine.
Our vision is to craft natural wines capturing the essence of their origin, that unique combination of soil, climate, rainfall and sunshine that produce individual characteristics of "regionality".
An Australian Family Owned Winery Since 1988.
Winemakers - Chris Hill
Chris Hill started making wine in 1981 in the Barossa Valley. For the last 3 decades he has worked with a number of great Aussie "wine legends" ... Len Evans, Grant Burge, Brian McGuigan, as well as some of today's talented stars across a wide spectrum of wine regions. Not so much a "flying winemaker", these days Chris considers himself more of a "driving winemaker". From his "Garage" in the McLaren Vale region he's within quick driving distance of the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Langhorne Creek, Fleurieu Peninsula and Clare. With a heritage of long friendships and solid working relationships, Chris has a unique connection with most of Australia's premier wine growing districts.
"I'm based in McLaren Vale, which is a wonderful region, but with friends and colleagues scattered throughout Australia's great viticultural landscape I've decided to concentrate on all the great wine districts rather than focus on just one."
Winemakers - Peter Jorgensen
In 1982 Peter was admitted to Charles Stuart University as an undergraduate student in Wine Sciences. He is well versed in viticultural, winemaking and blending skills with many years practical winemaking and blending experience.
Between 1995 and 2004, he had received over 70 medals, awards and accolades including numerous trophies with almost all wines produced over this period receiving at least one award. In recent years he no longer shows wine preferring his customers to be the judge.
Peter's greatest passion is still blending. As he frequently points out, "Blending is the crucial dynamic in the production of fine wine.
