Single Malt Whisky Society `121.38` Sumptuous and Stunning 7 YO (1 single 700mL), Scotland.
Tasting Note
Treacle toffee, Christmas cake, dates, figs, plums, walnuts and lamb tagine with black olives – the nose had all this, along with some sherry (happily no sherry ‘negatives’). The palate was sumptuous, “full on” and “stunning!” – we identified dried fruits, muscovado sugar, dark chocolate and molasses with spicy caramelized pork (even traces of teriyaki).
The reduced nose had satisfying aromas of spiced oak, nutty toffee, prunes and hints of English mustard. The mouth-feel was lovely and the palate achieved good balance between woody astringency and sweet toffee – even the non sherry lover was ecstatic.
The distillery is only fifteen years old.
