John Olsen (1928–) travelled to Spain early in his career which greatly influenced his portrayal of the landscape. Olsen has a deep engagement with the Australian landscape, what he describes as an exploration of the “totality of landscape”. He is a master watercolourist, applying paint loosely so the image emerges through expanses of rich colour and deftly placed line, dots and squiggles.
John has held both solo and group exhibitions regularly from 1955 to 2000 with his works being represented in both public and private collections here and overseas. He has won numerous awards including the 2005 Archibald Prize, 1969 & 1985 Wynne Prize and 1989 Sulman Prize. He was awarded an O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire)in 1977 and an O.A. Typically, auctions are over at their posted times. There are some exceptions to this, however, if there are any bids on a particular lot within 10 minutes of the close of the online auction (the “Going, Going, Gone! Period), it will be extended until there are no bids for 10 continuous minutes.
There is no limit to the number of times an online auction can be extended. This makes graysonline work more like a live auction where the bidding doesn’t stop as long as there is still interest in the product, rather than assigning an arbitrary cut-off time. This means it is a good idea to watch the action as the auction nears closing time and to check back often
