Wine Summary Image

Estate Grown wines are sourced from the De Bortoli owned vineyard at Dixons Creek in the northern section of the Yarra Valley. The grapes are picked from separate sites on the estate, with the first vines planted in 1971. This 200 ha vineyard is nestled into the western slopes facing mainly east and are carefully laid out to match variety and winestyle.

The Estate Grown Chardonnay has drive but is still quite a fine style. They try to achieve nuance of variety without losing sight of the vineyard characteristics or season. The wines are dry, nutty, slightly creamy and quite textural.

Colour

Light straw with a green edge.

Aroma

Bright, complex, hints of citrus, hazelnut, subtle oak.

Palate

Fine, minerally, textural, drying phenolics, creamy flavours. A terrific mild season with a good balance of flavour, texture and acidity. Quite fine and composed, good natural acidity.

Cellaring Potential

The wine will continue to develop complexity and interest with good cellaring for 5-10 years.

Food Matching

Best with fried John Dory or Flathead with fries and lemon.

Winery Profile

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
