Aromas of ripe cherry and spice, accentuated with rich plum and savoury highlights, the style of this wine is typical of Pinot Noir originating from our premium South Island vineyards. It has a rich, sweet approach, displaying ripe, dark berry fruits, subtle oak spice, velvety tannins and a long, concentrated finish, balancing structure with concentration.
Colour
Deep garnet red in colour.
Aroma
This wine exhibits black cherry, blackberry and plum fruits accentuated with earthy, savoury highlights.
Palate
It has a fleshy mid-palate displaying black fruits, cinnamon spice, chocolate and velvety tannin with a richness that carries the full length of the palate to the finish.
Cellaring Potential
The beauty of Pinot Noir is that it is always approachable when young, so this wine can be enjoyed upon release, but it nevertheless has sufficient tannin structure to enable it to develop and evolve with a further two or three years ageing.
Food Matching
As with all Pinot Noir, it will perfectly suit duck dishes and red meat dishes incorporating mushrooms.
While we craft wines from vineyards throughout New Zealand, Brancott Estate™ wines (formerly known as 'Montana' wines) are named in honour of our Marlborough roots - taking their name from our cherished Brancott Vineyard. With its special combination of soil, sun and climate, this is where we first planted our most famous varietal; Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Although our name has changed, you can be assured that the distinctive and uniquely New Zealand wine in the bottle will remain the same - as will the location of our inspirational home where it all began.
In 1973, Brancott Vineyard was the site of our first Sauvignon Blanc plantings in Marlborough – a decision that went against the popular opinion of the time that suggested the South Island was too cold to grow wine grapes. We soon proved this wasn’t the case with our very first vintage of the varietal winning an award.
The release of the first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc vintage in 1979 was the beginning of a phenomenon which, not only placed New Zealand firmly on the international wine map, but has since become a shining example of the quality of wine that can be produced from this land.
Today, Brancott Vineyard continues to be a source of inspiration for our winemakers, not only proving that anything is possible, but that our belief in this land and our knowledge to obtain the best from it can result in award-winning wines enjoyed the world over.
