The Yarra Valley’s very own opera diva, Dame Nellie Melba, enchanted the world as Mimi in ‘La Boheme’. This range of wines pays tribute to one of her most well-known operas, based in the characterful Latin Quarter of 1880’s Paris.

2016 was a mild season with good early rain, but quite dry from mid January to harvest. A terrific season for Pinot Gris and the other aromatic varieties. Fruit ripened in the cool of March.

Grape Varieties

Pinot Gris 90%, Gewurztraminer 5%, Pinot Blanc 3%, Riesling 2%

Colour

Vibrant straw colour with green edges.

Aroma

Faintly aromatic with classic, perfumed Pinot Gris characters of pear, orange blossom and honeysuckle.

Palate

Refined, dry structural palate with green apple and mandarin. Textural, gently aromatic, soft acidity.

Cellaring Potential

Enjoy now or keep for two to three years in a good cellar.

Winery Profile

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
