Wine Summary Image

Eileen Hardy was our family matriarch, an indomitable spirit and the first lady of Australian wine. Since taking over at the helm from her late husband Tom Mayfield Hardy, Eileen continued to build the Hardys brand and was recognised with an OBE for her outstanding contribution to the Australian wine industry.

Her unwavering dedication to the family led to her four children honouring her 80th birthday with a special vintage, which was served at her legendary open house birthday party. The wine was so well received by Eileen and her guests that supplies soon dwindled and an award winning icon was born.

Expert Reviews

A blend of 65% Tasmanian and 35% Yarra Valley grapes, hand-picked and wild yeast barrel-fermented, the Yarra component with no mlf, the Tasmanian portion with mlf. The blend was made after 10 months in barrel, the wine settled with four months in tank. It has a super-intense, pure, flinty bouquet, the palate a waltz for two, white peach from the Yarra Valley, grapefruit from Tasmania, piercing in its intensity and purity. Rating 96 - Drink by 2023 - James Halliday. Austalian Wine Companion (SEP/2014)

Colour

Medium to deep straw with green hues.

Aroma

Fresh toasty oak and struck match aromas sit in harmonious balance with light lemon pith and grapefruit characters.

Palate

Ultra fine, long and racy with sweet, juicy citrus flavours and complex nuances of vanillin malt. The exceptional structure is enhanced by tight, bright mineral acidity and a fine, long and persistent finish.
