Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Grape Varietals

64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay.

Aroma & Palate

The Chardonnay offers nectarine, cashews and biscuity characters - the backbone of teh Croser Non Vintage palate - with the PInot Noir providing a fine mousse and strawberry fruit lift.

Winemaking Notes

The wine is a blend of the current vintage Croser with reserve wine from sevral older vintages - with each vintage adding distinctive qualities to the final blend. Hand picked fruit is whole nuch pressed or crushed and pressed, with the free run juice then fermented using Petalumas specially selected yeast strain in barrique and tank. The tiraged Sparkling wine is left to age on yeast lees for 18 months and disgorged on demand - this ensures the wine retains optimum freshness and vitality.

Winery Profile

The unique Piccadilly Valley, 25 minutes from Adelaide behind Mount Lofty, is a cool, high rainfall viticultural region, climatically ideal for the production of Croser.

The Piccadilly Valley was chosen based on the belief that selected cool sites in the valley would produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of moderate sugar, high acid and finesse of flavour. Croser matures on yeast lees in the cool cellars of the Bridgewater Mill for two years before remuage and disgorging. The pristine flavours, defining acidity and elegant fruit structure sets Croser apart as one of Australia’s few aperitif style sparkling wines.

Croser is an age-worthy wine so each year a small proportion of each vintage is held back and allowed to mature for ten years prior to release. Croser Proprietors Reserve wines are identified by a red strip entwined in the cigar band, which guarantees the wine has been stored on lees at Petaluma’s sparkling cellars and disgorged prior to re-release to ensure freshness.

Sixty-four percent pinot noir gives richness, fruit weight and 18 months on lees gives almond brioche and creaminess.Australian Wine Vintage 2011(Aug/2010)

... is a blend from various vineyards and vintages. While a dry wine, the NV has a slightly higher dosage, which results in ripe and rich nectarine and strawberry on the palate. The 64% pinot noir and 36% chardonnay, is fruity but dry at the finish.Mt Barker Courier(17/Nov/2010)

Croser Non Vintage Sparkling is a must for those who drink fizz only once or twice a year, and want a reliable, affordable and very drinkable bottle of bubbles. The Croser NV has had a bit of a face-lift recently, and is made as a blend of the current vintage and several older vintages, with each adding a distinctive touch to the final blend. It is an exciting bouquet of complex fruits, citrus and baked yeast characters. The Pinot Noir gives the backbone of the palate, and shows hints of red fruits, and apple. Chardonnay offers nectarine, cashew and shortbread characters. An elegant, refreshing style that's drinking beautifully on release and will develop complexity.Weekend Post (4/Sep/2010)

The first Croser NV is a fine debut in a fresh, crisp style with Pink Lady apple fruit, zesty lemon structure and some brioche complexity. With seamless length, this is a very classy aperitif style.WBM(01/Feb/2010)

This is for those once-a-year fizz drinkers who come out in search of something reliable, affordable and, most importantly, drinkable. One of Australia?s best bubbles in a new guise, this multi-vintage blend uses reserve wines with the current vintage to paint a more complete picture of how uniquely placed the Adelaide Hills are to make great fizz. FHM (01/Nov/2010)

The Croser brand has been around since the 1980s, when it was still believed that Australian sparkling could never be as good as French. This non-vintage Croser is a new release and shows how far Australian bubbly has come. With exquisite balance and just the right amount of acidity, it?s a dual-purpose fizz that it is equally at home with food or on its own.Grazia (04/Jan/2010)

It's been a long time coming, but Croser NV is worth the wait. Less lean than the vintage Croser, its pinot noir content is higher but the Croser elegance remains.Vogue Entertaining & Travel (01/Jan/2010)

A new release from the house of Croser and it's damn good. The non-vintage has great flavour, is elegant and dry and has nice toasty yeast characters. A fantastic aperitif style...Village Voice Balmain (01/Dec/2009)

A new line from Petaluma. I tasted it alongside a raft of other sparking wines and Champagne?. Rich peach fruit with strawberry accents and some biscuit - slight flor yeast character wafting about. It has strong vigouous bubbles and a roundness in the mouth - lot?s of fruit and flavour, not so much finesse...Winefront (09/Nov/2009)
