The French saying, ‘le bec fin’, translating to ‘the last beak’, is used as an expression to describe one with a refined palate. This Côtes-du-Rhône, made by one of the Valley’s leading winemakers, displays all the
characteristics that are so loved about the region.
Aroma
The nose presents perfumed aromas of ripe blueberries and raspberries while being balanced by a slight peppery edge.
Palate
The juicy dark fruit flavours and rich body of the Grenache are perfectly complemented by the spiciness and chewy tannins of the Syrah (Shiraz). Regardless of how refined your palate, the finesse and balance of flavour profiles allow this wine to be enjoyed by anyone.
Vintage Condition
2009 will be a year to remember in the Rhône Valley with many growers and winemakers reporting the best vintages on record some even comparing it to the infamous 1978 vintage. Winter and spring were cold and wet, allowing for the vines to store energy and water reserves to build up. This proved critical, as the growing season was very dry, with no measurable rainfall from June through August. A two week heat period in August fully ripened the berries before their harvest in September.
