Sandalford’s icon wine with hallmark Cabernet characters of blackcurrant, cedary and wet forest floor notes.
Gold Medal - 2010 Margaret River Wine Show
Silver Medal - 2010 New Zealand Top 100
Gold Medal - Dan Murphy’s National Wine Show of Australia
"Not to play favourites, but if I had to choose two Australian regions to fulfil my drinking needs, it would have to be Margaret River and the Hunter Valley... with a twitchy look backward towards the Great Southern. I believe it says on the bottle that the Prendiville comes from the top ten barrels of the vintage. Regional perfume of aromatic dried herbs and bay leaf, some cocoa oak and a mix of black and blue fruits, but specifically ripe mulberries. It’s medium to full in weight with a slick of ripe, powder fine tannin and fresh acidity along with soaring length. It’s ripe but clear fruited, with no muddy raisin flavour to spoil the enjoyment of its supple tannic impact. Stately, statuesque Cabernet – I should probably rate it 96 points."

Dark cherry with an unmistakable magenta hue.
Aroma
In what is atypical for Margaret River this wine has almost a floral nose reminiscent of perfumed violets. The hallmark Cabernet character of blackcurrant is certainly present as is the cedary and wet forest floor notes derived from both fruit and French oak.
Palate
In days of yore this would have been classified as a fine Claret, such is the elegance and style of this wine. The flavours are of cassis with some rosemary and bay herb characteristics. The oak is beautifully integrated lending cigar box, camphor and chocolate nuances whilst the mouthfeel is one of balance. The finish is soft and long with velvet-like tannins filling in a sense what is a medium bodied wine.
Cellaring Potential
Whilst a remarkable wine now, the Prendiville is certainly a wine which will benefit from careful cellar maturation for 15 years or more. A harmless deposit may form in the bottle during this time and decanting is recommended prior to serving.
Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition
"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”
Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.
Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.
In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.
A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.

"Brilliantly clear colour; highly fragrant cassis/blackcurrant aromas, then a finely structured, fruit-pure package, the contribution of oak and tannins only making their presence felt on the back-palate and finish. A masterly exercise of restraint."
Rating 96 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2011)
"Has a distinct cool, minty aroma which seems to be coming from the regional fruit source and the aromatic cedary oak. The palate is a tightly wound coil spring, with firm, angular tannins and silky fine oak working a treat to support this impressive fruit. Very stylish wine of great class that is best in the cellar for a few years. "
