A classic Australian blend. Beautiful ripe, sweet and juicy dark berry flavours with hints of Shiraz spiciness and Cabernet eucalypt.
An attractive Western Australian red at a good price, this shiraz- cabernet sauvignon combo marries spicy berry fruit with some rustic earthiness and savoury hints of mint and spice. It’s ripely flavoured with middling body, good length and some balanced firmness underneath. 4 Stars -Ralph Kyte-Powell, Age (22/MAR/2011)

Magnificent colour. Full Satsuma plum and magenta.
Aroma
Very much a Shiraz dominant wine with rich and ripe blackberry fruit with spicy undertones of anise and nutmeg
Palate
Perfectly ripened flavours, smooth tannins and a gorgeous mouthfeel to boot.
Winemaking Note
Immediately after harvest the fruit was destemmed and crushed to 20 tonne static fermenters. Both rack and return and pumpovers were used for extraction and cap management during the fermentation which took place using a selected yeast strain. After fermentation the wine was drained, skins pressed with the pressings going back in with the free-run wine. The wine was then inoculated with a known MLF strain. Post MLF, further racking took place to oak. Following this oak maturation the wine was blended and filtered to bottle.
Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition
"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”
Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.
Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.
In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.
A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.

The first thing you notice here is an impressive mint-chocolate nose – you’ll love it or hate it and Coonawarra cabernet fans will recognise it a mile away. It certainly shows the variety’s power in this two-parter, even though shiraz dominates by volume. The wine is medium-weight with enough black-tea grip to support its blue and black berry flavours – quality quaffing. 3 Stars -Tony Love, Courier Mail (29/MAR/2011)
