Expert Reviews

Remember when it was only available on ‘indent’, in big wooden boxes, and you had so scramble (a bit) to secure your allocation? Strange days indeed.

Complexity, it has. I imagine I can smell and taste such things as coffee, honeycomb, redcurrant, tobacco, blackcurrant and a little mint and pepper. Regardless, it smells and tastes good. Feels good too. Medium bodied, fresh and sure footed with light raspy tannin and plenty of length and appeal. I enjoy that it isn’t trying too hard with extract, oak or too many flashy bits. Stylish and age-worthy. Lovely wine. Rating 94 - Drink 2015 - 2030, Gary Walsh, Wine Front (SEP/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Aroma/Palate

The 2010 Petaluma Coonawarra Merlot is dense rich dry red, with abundant soft tannin and brooding dark fruits. Ripe fruit, plum and black currant is backed up with subtle, delicate oak. The palate is rich, full with masses of black fruit and lovely cedar oak in the background, and finishes with dark fruits and lovely tannins.

Cellaring

The 2010 Coonawarra Merlot is an intense, rich wine that will reward many decades of careful cellaring while being approachable in its youth, a sign of a great vintage.

Elegance, finesse and mouth filling fruit signal the continuation of the fine rich Merlot style Petaluma has been producing from the Evans Vineyard since the first release 1990.
