Wine Summary Image

This is the 30th release of this much loved Riesling. As always, it makes a lovely drink as a crisp, young wine, but will easily improve in the bottle for 6-10 years + for those who like Riesling with a little age. I am yet to discover a better oyster wine than young, dry Clare Valley Riesling.

Colour

Brilliant pale green colour

Aroma

Typically fresh and bright displaying layers of lemon/lime zest, tropical fruit and subtle nuances of mineral and wet slate.

Palate

Fresh, crisp and dry, the palate is loaded with all the lemon/lime/slate mentioned above. These are all tightly woven around a core of bright acidity providing length and drive to the soft, dry finish.

Food Matching

Fresh oysters.

Cellaring

As always, it makes a lovely drink as a crisp, young wine, but will easily improve in the bottle for 6-10 years + for those who like Riesling with a little age.

Winery Profile

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
