All of the pinot noir and chardonnay grapes for Croser are grown in Petaluma's Piccadilly Valley vineyards at between 400 and 500 metres ASL, on the cool south and west facing slopes of Mount Lofty and Mount Bonython in the coolest viticultural region in South Australia.

Petaluma 2010 Croser is a blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay all from the old vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley, first planted in 1979.

Aroma/Palate

The traditional methode champenoise and wonderful fruit has produced a very fine delicate wine with really elegant nuances. Hints of raspberry and strawberry from the Pinot Noir; lovely ripe apple Chardonnay; subtle biscuit aromas and creaminess on the palate; highlighted by wonderful bracing crisp acidity.

A fine delicate aperitif style that warrants bottle age, the 2010 Croser Vintage is a complex fruit driven methode champenoise wine, and is a true reflection of the great Piccadilly Valley vineyards from which it is crafted.

Winery Profile

The unique Piccadilly Valley, 25 minutes from Adelaide behind Mount Lofty, is a cool, high rainfall viticultural region, climatically ideal for the production of Croser.

The Piccadilly Valley was chosen based on the belief that selected cool sites in the valley would produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of moderate sugar, high acid and finesse of flavour. Croser matures on yeast lees in the cool cellars of the Bridgewater Mill for two years before remuage and disgorging. The pristine flavours, defining acidity and elegant fruit structure sets Croser apart as one of Australia’s few aperitif style sparkling wines.

Croser is an age-worthy wine so each year a small proportion of each vintage is held back and allowed to mature for ten years prior to release. Croser Proprietors Reserve wines are identified by a red strip entwined in the cigar band, which guarantees the wine has been stored on lees at Petaluma’s sparkling cellars and disgorged prior to re-release to ensure freshness.
