A beautiful Margaret River Shiraz, with just a tiny bit of Viognier in the blend (2%).

Margaret River has once again been favoured with ideal ripening conditions for the 2014 vintage. Over 1000mL of winter rain, meant there was a solid level of sub-soil moisture for the vines. (Storms in late September resulted in lower yields for Chardonnay, but quality wasn’t affected.) Mild summer conditions prevailed with cool nights and an almost constant breeze producing grapes which held their natural acid balance and had exceptional flavour development at lower sugar levels. Again, all fruit was disease free, with all varieties coming off at perfect ripeness.

Colour

Classic dark ruby red.

Aroma

Intense nose full of cherries and blackberries with notes of chocolate and spice.

Palate

A definite ‘sweet-fruit’ wine. Mulberries and dark berry fruits up front, supported by notes of cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Seamless integration of the French oak adds vanilla to the primary fruit characters. Velvety tannins lead to a gentle, lingering finish. Medium term cellaring will only add to the complexity.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
