Wine Summary Image

As St Hallett’s reserve Shiraz, Blackwell is big and bold. It exudes all the power and brooding density that the Barossa has to offer in Shiraz.

The fruit is picked at full ripeness to gain optimum power and concentration of fruit flavour and a dense, inky colour. Each parcel of Shiraz is individually matched to one of a selection of American oak barrels in which the wine spends two years maturing and gaining considerable texture and power prior to release.

Expert Reviews

"One of my favourite Barossa wines since its introduction a few years ago, this captures a stunning vintage perfectly. Lovely freshness on the nose, and the palate has a tightness about it, with excellent fruit intensity. Tannins are fine and firm, giving elegance and refinement. Stylish and powerful."

Rating 96 - Ray Jordan, Weekend West (07/JUL/2012)

Winery Profile

In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.

St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
