Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma: Super ripe blueberry, plum and blackberry Shiraz fruit with some dark chocolate and spicy notes as well. These are all complimented nicely by a swirl of charry French oak somewhere in the mix. Very attractive.

Palate: The palate is soft, spicy and powerful with flavours of blueberry, plum and charry oak overlaying a core of dark chocolate running through the mid palate. A little hit of fine, dry tannins on the finish adds length and structure to the plush fruit.

Summary: From a great vintage this is an excellent example of Clare Valley Shiraz. No problem in enjoying this wine as an infant, but as usual 7-10 years will see some development in the wine and amply repay those who care enough to stash some away in a cool, dark place.

Winery Profile

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
