Wine Summary Image

The grapes for this wine were picked from our 40 year old vines grown in the volcanic soil of the ancient Fordwich Sill. These low yielding mature vines produce ripe, concentrated fruit which results in a wine with excellent regional and varietal characters. To achieve subtle oak integration, this wine was partially matured in new French barriques for 6 months for added complexity and richness.

Region:
NSW - Hunter Valley
State:
New South Wales
Country:
Australia

Expert Reviews

From the fully mature estate vineyards; part of the wine was matured for 6 months in new French barriques, then back-blended with the stainless steel component, and bottled without delay. It is fresh and lively, with good varietal expression in a grapefruit/stone fruit spectrum, the oak subtle, but an important contributor. Rating 92 – Drink by 2019, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (SEPT/2014).

Colour

The 2014 Chardonnay is a a pale lime straw colour.

Aroma

It shows aromas of white stone fruit over grapefruit notes with a subtle oak creaminess.

Palate

The wine is medium bodied, dry and elegant with flavours of stone fruit, fresh citrus and added complexity from the subtle use of French oak. The wine is textured and balanced with a long lingering finish.

Enjoy as a young wine and over the next 3 -5 years with careful cellaring.

Rating 90

Chardonnay grown on 40 year old vines in the Broke sub-region of the Hunter Valley. That pretty much pre-dates most plantings in Australia outside the Hunter. Anyway, I know that it’s becoming quite popular to have a bit of the old co2 spritz in freshly bottled wines (red and white), so be warned that this baby is positively tingling with it. Maybe leave it a couple of months before opening.

Peach, fresh pineapple and a clip of cedar oak. Medium bodied, fresh and lively with peach and citrus, light flinty texture, sweetness of fruit carries onto the light spicy finish. Nice balance. Good to drink. Rating 90 – Drink by 2015 – 2019, Gary Welsh, winefront.com.au (SEPT/2014).
