Wine Summary Image

The winemaking of Howard Park Sauvignon Blanc focuses on the regional fruit expression of southern Margaret River to build layers of flavor and structure. Here the Sauvignon Blanc is distinguished by a rich fruit weight, varietal notes of lemon/lime citrus, blackcurrant, stone fruits and the aromas of passion flower, elderflower and sweet herbs.

In our endeavor to craft an exceptional wine, many winemaking techniques are incorporated in the making of Howard Park Sauvignon Blanc. Most batches are fine cut free run juice, cool fermented in stainless steel to maintain regional character and defined fruit flavours. Special batches are hand-picked, whole fruit pressed and fermented in oak to add complexity and texture. A minor contribution from time on skins imparts a pithy structural edge.

Winery Profile

History

Howard Park Wines was established in 1986 and was one of the original pioneers of the Great Southern region. The founding owner of Howard Park, John Wade ventured west to Western Australia's South West with one belief: "I don't know any other region where you can produce both Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon as premium wines". This founding belief began the journey of Howard Park.

Now over 20 years on, Howard Park remains a family owned winery under the guidance of Jeff and Amy Burch. With a philosophy to produce wines of distinct regional character with an uncompromising commitment to quality Howard Park has forged an international reputation for their wines and an expanded range including single vineyard and multi regional wines from Margaret River and the Great Southern.

"We have worked towards establishing Howard Park as a premium family wine company. This success will be measured by the work we do now for future generations."  Jeff Burch

Our Philosophy

This founding two region philosophy aligns with Howard Park's wine making philosophy which adopts an ethos for integrating the old with the new. Howard Park embraces modern technology whilst employing traditional wine making techniques and produces internationally recognised wines of the highest quality. As a result our Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines are only ever produced in very small quantities, but are noted for their rare balance of elegance and power with a proven history of ageing with increased complexity and interest.

"We have a simple philosophy; premium wine can only come from excellent fruit. Simply, we go to wherever the fruit grows best." Jeff Burch

Customer Reviews

“Two thirds Great Southern, one third Margaret River comprise this wine. It's passionfruity, in essence, but there's floral things going on in the bouquet and a chalky phenolic grip for interest. Vibrant, zingy style. Slips across the palate." Rating 92 - Mike Bennie, WBM

“Interesting flavours in this wine: there is the expected and classic Sauvignon augmented with richer, slightly riper peach or even table grape flavour. I enjoyed it but as I am a noted Sauvignon dissenter please don’t tell anyone.” Rating 94 - Tony Keys - The Key Review of Wine
