Wine Summary Image

Peter Lehmann built his winery by defying accepted wisdom, courting near misses and narrow scrapes, and never shirking the opportunity to challenge the norm. The same values exist today with our winemakers treating every wine as a blank canvas and their "palette" consists of fruit from more than 140 growers. These wines are made to capture the colour and fun experienced as Peter Lehmann lived his dream, with all his 'art and soul.

Shiraz and Grenache make perfect wine partners – blended together they each bring varietal qualities which create a deliciously enjoyable wine perfect for drinking when young. The lifted aromatic flavours of Grenache gives the richness of Shiraz a delightful softness and elegance, making it an affable classic Barossa blend.

Expert Reviews

An elegant, refreshing and friendly BBQ quaffer, with sufficient body to build a long finish. True to the season, it’s a particularly spicy Shiraz Grenache, laced with pink pepper, fresh rhubarb, raspberry and strawberry fruit. Drink 2013. Rating 90 - Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste Weekly (JUN/2013)

A deep, vibrant red colour.

Aroma/Palate

A bouquet of dark red fruits and a touch of background aniseed—this a richly flavoured, fruit driven wine with great aromatics and a beautifully soft finish.

Food Matching

The youthful freshness of this wine makes for perfect lunchtime drinking. Wonderful with Mediterranean style dishes such as pizza, pasta or chicken. Also good with a spicy barbecued sausage in fresh bread.

Winery Profile

In the face of a serious overproduction of grapes and the real possibility of growers facing financial ruin, Peter Lehmann found some investment partners, established a consortium and built the Peter Lehmann Wines winery. It was 1979.The first vintage was processed in 1980 and in 1982 the winery was formally named Peter Lehmann Wines. From then on, its wines have been marketed under the Peter Lehmann Wines label.

As an experienced winemaker, Peter Lehmann was all too aware of the challenges facing a young winery in a competitive market. Growth was well planned, slow and steady.

Initially, the winery facility was built to process fruit purchased from the local growers. Carefully and strategically, the Peter Lehmann Wines operation moved on from the bulk wine market to become a producer of premium bottled wines with a well-deserved international reputation.

As well as purchasing grapes from about 185 local independent growers, Peter Lehmann Wines has its own vineyards, which produce about 2% of its requirements. The famous Barossa wine region is a little over an hour by car north of Adelaide, South Australia’s capital. The Barossa comprises two regions, the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, and these regions encompass a myriad of sub-districts.

The care and consideration which Peter Lehmann Wines brings to the selection of grapes enable the winery to produce a wide range of distinctive, award-winning and internationally acclaimed wines.

Our wines are created from grapes purchased from about 165 carefully selected independent growers as well as grapes grown in the four company-owned vineyards. Many of our growers’ families have worked the same vineyards for five and, in some cases, six generations. These Barossa vignerons tend to around 900 individual vineyards that run the gamut of the Barossa, through Lyndoch, Vine Vale, Light Pass, Stonewell, Greenock, Ebenezer and the Eden Valley.
