Wine Summary Image

True to our French origins, all Blue Pyrenees sparkling wines are created using the traditional “methode champenoise” system, meaning that the bottle you are drinking from is the same bottle in which the secondary fermentation occurred. The Blue Pyrenees Vintage Brut 2010 also expresses the special qualities of the component wines chosen when creating this consistent house style. The Blue Pyrenees team has incorporated the best cuvées from the three classic sparkling varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, each presenting varietal and regional characters, creating a beguiling complex blend. The judicious use of small amounts of reserve wine adds more complexity and maturity whilst helping to maintain consistency from year to year.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Appearance

Brilliant straw green with a pale pink hue.

Aroma

The complex aromas of toast, freshly baked biscuits and nougat are evidence of extended aging on yeast lees. Subtle hints of lemon and apple give an overall impression of freshness and vitality.

Palate

The 2010 Blue Pyrenees Vintage Brut exhibits a fine and persistent bead, concentrated yeast autolysis characters plus red & green apple fruit flavours. The lively palate is driven by a fresh acidity, which lingers harmoniously with the aged complexity.

Cellaring

Released as a mature style it is ready to appreciate now, but can be aged with confidence for 5 years or more.

Medals & Trophies

Silver Medal, Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2013

Winery Profile

Blue Pyrenees - then called Chateau Remy - was established in Western Victoria in 1963 by Remy Martin. Remy Martin was committed to discovering the superb sparkling wine potential of the worlds cool climate wine regions and in fact subsequently became the force behind Champagne Houses Krug and Charles Heidsieck. Blue Pyrenees Estate was among the modern Australian wine industry’s first ventures into cool climate viticulture. Ample amounts of sunshine ensure our grapes ripen to full maturity with the heat moderated by altitude vineyards and southerly ocean winds. The climate is warm enough to give concentration and power, yet cool enough to give vibrancy and elegance, resulting in remarkable wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Our Estate is surrounded by the picturesque blue-hued Pyrenees range named for its beauty and similarity to the Pyrenees mountains bordering France and Spain, though some think this explorer’s memory of what constituted a mountain may have been distorted by his long voyage across the flat seas of the Pacific!

French eccentricity was the hallmark of the Estate and the brand’s creation. In 2002 the Estate was purchased by a group of Australian wine-passionate businessmen. Eccentricity, with a New World twist, is guaranteed to continue with a new, innovative management and winemaking team at Blue Pyrenees Estate.
