Highly aromatic blend of shiraz and durif from Rutherglen. Matured in French and American oak.

It smells and tastes floral. First impression was that viognier is at play, though the spec notes suggest not. It’s a pretty, raspberry-and-blackberry flavoured wine, has a good fluid feel for the most part before leathery, grunty tannin kicks in. Easy to slosh down, but with something to chew on too. Rating 88 - Drink by 2019, Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au (NOV/2014).

Colour

Vibrant dark crimson.

Aroma

Attractive lifted nose with a broad spectrum of fruit including mulberry and blood plum with hints of fennel and integrated cedary oak.

Palate

Shiraz is the predominant variety providing depth of ripe plum and mulberry fruit on the palate. Durif is used for complexity adding dark cherry, earthy ironstone flavours and fine grained, lingering tannins.

Cellaring Potential

This wine reflects the cooler vintage and is medium bodied with fresh acidity and will continue to develop over the next three to five years with careful cellaring.

Food Matching

It’s the ideal wine to share with family and friends at a BBQ or with wood fired pizza.

Winery Profile

Campbells winery and vineyards are situated in the historic Rutherglen Wine Region of North East Victoria.

Brothers Malcolm and Colin are the fourth generation to carry on the Campbell tradition started by their great grandfather John Campbell in Rutherglen in 1870. Together with their wives Jenny and Prue, they have forged a strong reputation for Campbells as a benchmark Rutherglen wine producer.

The brothers are an ideal team with Malcolm as viticulturist and Colin as winemaker. They have 160 acres of vineyard all within the historic Rutherglen Wine Region and are a true estate grown and bottled operation.

This means we have the ability to nurture our wines from vine to bottle. As Colin says, “Our wines are like our children, we bring them into this world and take great pride and joy in holding their hands and watching them grow”.

Malcolm's approach in the vineyard is quite simple, “Quality even at the expense of quantity is our aim. We assist nature, we don't seek to dominate her.”

Colin believes his role as winemaker is to maximize and protect the natural fruit flavours. His skill is in making wines with structure and balance that can confidently be aged; a hallmark of Campbells Wines.

Today the fifth generation of Campbells is adding their enthusiasm and skills. How excited would their great great grandfather John Campbell be to see this dedication to the Campbell name!
