Expert Reviews

There’s some good Shiraz, and some less good, it seems from 2014 in the Barossa Valley. Seems to be a theme of some richness, with an undercurrent of amaro style bitterness. I don’t mind that, seeing as a enjoy those flavours in wine, and elsewhere.

Juicy cherries, chocolate and dried herbs with some nougat oak and spice in the background. Medium to full bodied, slippery dark cherry flavours, with an undertow of chicory bitterness. Glycerol texture, light chalky tannin, acidity more or less balanced, and pretty good length with an Italianate bitterness to offset the sweet dark fruit. Good now. Gustatory. No harm in drinking this right now. Rating 90 - Drink by 2019, Gary Walsh, winefront.com.au (SEP/2015)>

Winery Tasting Notes

Deep crimson/purple.

Nose of cedar, spice and plum.

Dark fruits and chocolate lurking on the rich structured palate. The wine shows powerful depth of flavour with plush lingering mouthfeel.

Winery Profile

Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. is Barossa rebooted.

Our wines make statements as bold as their avant-garde labels! Minimal intervention winemaking emphasises pure structured fruit and utilises the lost art of judicious small batch blending. The wines we make are the styles that epitomise the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

Winemaker Daniel Chaffey Hartwig is the most recent of the Chaffey Brothers’ descendants to ply the ancient trade. Barossa born and bred, he was immersed in the wine business from an early age and spent 11 years working as a wine consultant to Australia’s leading winemakers. The birth of Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. represents the fruition of a life long dream. In 2012 Daniel was joined by brother-in-law Theo Engela as the other “Chaffey Brother”.
