Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

The appearance is opaque, inky magenta / black with dense purple hues on the rim and long, viscous alcohol legs.

Aroma

The bouquet is powerful with dark chocolate and cedar wood up front followed by complex savoury aromas of gourmet deli. There's a lively lift of sweet spice, red berries and the yeasty aroma of freshly toasted brioche. The initial impact is full and intense yet the overall impression is supple, inviting and delightfully sophisticated.

Palate

The palate is bigger than anticipated with weighty fruit and a strong tannin grip. The initial flavours are dark plums and cherries with luscious oak adding subtle spice and savoury elements. The middle palate kicks in with a hint of sweet blackberry and raspberry coulis, which takes the edge off the youthful tannins allowing the alcohol warmth to linger on the tongue and deliver a long lasting finish that has surprising elegance and charisma, inviting sip after sip. This is a very generous wine showing premium fruit and skillful winemaking.

Food Matching

The wonderful savoury characters of this Shiraz are ideally matched to rare roast lamb or a juicy wagyu beef steak with garlic butter and crispy fried potatoes.

Cellaring Potential

This is a classic Barossa wine which will deliver excellent drinking over a decade of careful cellaring. From release it offers an intense flavour experience which will continue to develop and gain complexity as it matures in bottle. Decanting for a few hours is recommended prior to consuming.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

Intense purple colour, perfect for a Barossa Shiraz.

The nose is rich with red berries, chocolate and spice with a hint of oak around the edges.

The palate is powerful, dark berries and chocolate everywhere, with anise and allspice dotted here and there rolling into a fine coffee finish. Mouthfeel great as usual, fine grained tannins and fresh acidity. The length keeps on going. Intense but restrained Barossa Shiraz.

Accompany with a char-grilled rib-eye on the bone with Cafe de Paris butter and shoestring chips.
