Wine Summary Image

Delamotte Brut Rosé is made by the traditional saignée method, extracting colour and complexity from the skins through maceration before and/or during fermentation. This traditional rosé method is rarely used in Champagne because the complex method it entails, although it brings much elegance and structure to the wine. Pinot Noir is sourced from Grand Cru vineyards located in the South-East slopes of the Montagne de Reims area in the villages of Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tours-sur-Marne.

The Chardonnay that is used in this wine is from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Every wine of Champagne Delamotte is entitled to Chardonnay and our rosé although it is a ‘saignée’, is no exception. By cofermenting the two grapes as opposed to blending two varietal wines, the complexity of each personality is preserved without hindering the elegant ‘saignée’ colour.

The balance between the dominant Pinot Noir and the smaller percentage of Chardonnay in the Delamotte Rosé gives this wine its beautiful, salmon-pink colour. Once ready for its second fermentation, Delamotte rosé spends 3-4 years on the lees before disgorgement.

This is a refined, somewhat smoky wine, the stuff that dreams are made of - for an afternoon or at dessert time, with perhaps a raspberry charlotte or a red fruit coulis.

Serving Suggestion

Our wines should be served chilled but not cold (12°C) and the choice of glassware should resemble a small, elegant wine glass rather than a thin flute.

Winery Profile

The neighbouring domain to Salon at Le Mesnil was established as long ago as 1760. It was previously closely linked with Lanson and in 1949 it was taken over by the Nonancourt family. Since Laurent-Perrier bought Salon in 1989, Delamotte has functioned as Salon's second label.

Delamotte owns five hectares at Le Mesnil and has access to Salon's vineyards during the years when no Salon is produced. Didier Dupond runs both firms with great sensitivity and enthusiasm.

Delamotte purchases 75 per cent of its grapes, mostly from Premier cru villages. The 99 is very unalloyed and polished with a nice, uplifting, balanced fruity base. Probably a wine that will reach its peak quite early on. It is reminiscent of a rich Chablis. The 96 magnum is already a classic.
