Wine Summary Image

The limited production Evermore wines from Frogmore Creek are part of an unfinished project between our grapes and the winemakers. Every vintage we orchestrate several unconventional winemaking techniques for our microbatches of handpicked grapes, which each develop their own flavours, aromas and textures as they ferment and mature in barrel. These individual attributes layer together at blending, creating an immensely complex finished wine; Evermore interesting than the sum of its parts.

Expert Review

Bright, clear colour showing expected development; the bouquet and palate show to a lesser or greater degree the wild ferment, carbonic maceration, part whole bunch fermentation, co-fermentation with a small amount of pinot gris; the overall flavours are foresty/stemmy, but with enough berry fruit to provide balance; excellent length.Drink to 2017: Rating 93 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (APR/2011)

Tasting Notes

Aroma/Palate

At release in January 2011 this wine had aromas of dark cherries, lifted with savoury notes, following through to a multilayered palate with ripe plums, silken tannins and immense length.

The grapes for the 2007 Evermore Pinot Noir were treated to eight unconventional winemaking techniques, including wild ferment, carbonic maceration, whole-bunch ferment and co-fermentation with a small amount of pinot gris.

Winery Information

Frogmore Creek is a Pacific Rim joint venture, the owners being Tony Scherer of Tasmania and Jack Kidwiler of California. The business has grown very substantially by first establishing its own organically managed vineyard, and thereafter by a series of acquisitions. First was the purchase of the Hood/Wellington Wines business previously owned by Andrew Hood; next was the purchase of the large Roslyn Vineyard near Campania; and finally (in October 2010) the acquisition of Meadowbank Estate, where the cellar door is now located.

Alain Rousseau - Senior Winemaker

Alain Rousseau hails from an old vigneron family in Vallet of the Loire Valley region of France. He was formally trained at the prestigious Dijon University of Burgundy, before returning to the Loire to work at Château du Cléray.

In 1991 Alain and his wife moved to Tasmania, joining the local wine industry at its infancy. For a decade he worked with Domaine A and Moorilla Estate, gaining many accolades for his Tasmanian wines.

After four year sojourn at Sirromet winery in Southern Queensland, Alain returned to Tasmania in 2004 to work with Frogmore Creek, developing and refining their wine styles.
