Wine Summary Image

Heat wave conditions caused great concern amongst Winemakers and Viticulturists alike, leading up to the 2009 harvest. Luckily, as quickly as the heat came, it reduced to a more manageable level and most vines made a full recovery to ripen in a nice slow and steady manner. 2009 produced many good parcels of fruit and some absolutely outstanding wines were made. This Shiraz being no exception.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

The colour is a deep red with some mature brick red hues.

Aroma

The aroma is warm, heady and inviting with spice, toasty vanillin oak and complex fruit characters.

Palate

The palate is initially smooth and filling then eventually shows its quite fine and well structured interior. Fresh

maturing fruits and well integrated oak fill the palate from start to finish.

Food Matching

Enjoy with Wagyu beef dishes, Chateaubriand and Beef Bourguignon.

As a leading personality in the emerging Australian wine industry, Geoff also established a high profile internationally, most recently as consulting winemaker in Italy making wines for the UK market and as a respected judge at Australian and International wine shows.

Geoff Merrill's wines have been successful at Australian and International wine shows, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 2005 Melbourne wine show. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 29 Trophies, 143 Gold , 373 Silver and 1181 Bronze medals.
