Expert Reviews

One of the most consistently excellent labels, this latest version is cracking good. It's pristine and beautifully lifted on the nose showing tropical fruit, white peach, dill and a hint of flinty complexity. The palate is concentrated and juicy with excellent intensity and vibrancy, and finishes superbly long and succulent. At its best: now to 2017. Rating 93/5 Stars - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Highly lifted aromatics showing bright Passionfruit and Papaya with zingy limes and pineapples! Overtly tropical but with a hint of mint/herbals coming through from the lower Awatere block.

Palate

The palate is beautifully balanced with a generous sweet entry and great crunchy acidity which allows the fruit to echo around the palate.

Moderately rich and fleshy Sauvignon Blanc with strong guava and pink grapefruit together with more subtle passion fruit and red capsicum. Tangy wine with a crisp, drying finish. Rating 90 - Bob Campbell MW

Intensely scented of pink grapefruit, passion fruit and pineapple with a subtle sage undercurrent, the medium bodied 2014 Sauvignon Blanc has a lively acid backbone supporting the intense flavors before it finishes with persistent tropical and chopped herb notes. Rating 89 - Drink by 2016, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (DEC/2014).

Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, light on edge. The nose is fresh and finely presented with harmoniously concentrated aromas of passionfruit and nettles, lifted with white florals and fermentation esters. This is very expressive of the Awatere Valley. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, refreshingly juicy and mouthwatering flavours of passionfruit and nettles form a concentrated core. The palate is very fine in texture with lacy acidity lending vitality and tension. The wine flows smoothly with good energy, lead ng to a refined, dry finish with nettle and gooseberry nuances. This is a refreshing and finely presented Sauvignon Blanc with smooth passionfruity flavours in the classical Awatere Valley style. Serve as an aperitif, with seafood, and salads and vegetables over the next 2 years. Fruit from 60% Dashwood and 40% Awatere, cool fermented in stainless-steel to 12.8% alc. and 4.6 g/L RS, the wine given lees contact. Rating 4 Stars - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

The 2014 vintage is aromatic and crisp, in a medium-bodied style with punchy, melon/lime flavours and a slightly spicy, tangy, lingering finish. Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines (2015).
