Wine Summary Image

The Devil’s Whiskers are the two little marks that appear around the top lips of some people when they drink red wine – even just one glass.

The conditions leading up to the 2011 vintage were extremely favourable with some of the best rainfall seen for more than a decade. The summer was mild early, reminiscent of 2002 and 2004. The season’s vintage was against trend with budburst, flowering and harvest starting about 3 weeks later than average. Whilst most Australian wine regions experienced widespread rain during the summer it was later coming to McLaren Vale. As a result we managed to bring in our premium parcels of Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay early and before the rain. These parcels have produced exceptional wines.

Aroma

Aromas of spicy blackberry conserve and sweet earth with nuances of eucalypt and sweet floral notes integrated with fine French oak

Palate

Flavours of mixed dark berries including mulberry, blackberry, and blueberry pastilles with light citrus notes. This wine shows great texture with fine fruit tannins complimented with carefully integrated oak.

Kangarilla Road winery is a partnership between Kevin and Helen O’Brien. While the wines show the generosity of the McLaren Vale region, they also have a unique Kangarilla Road style, the white wines fragrant and aromatic and the reds an elegant expression of their variety. The Kangarilla Road philosophy remains unchanged: “To produce wines that we enjoy drinking – wines that can be enjoyed with or without food and especially with friends.”
