Wine Summary Image

The 2013 vintage in Margaret River continues the long run of outstanding vintages enjoyed by, what is now, widely regarded as the premier grape growing region in Australia.

In what was a carbon copy of the 2012 vintage the summer of 2013 started off uncommonly warm to hot throughout January and early February but with a significant cooling influence experienced towards the latter part of February and extending throughout March and early April allowing the majority of the grape varieties to take full advantage of sunny but not overly hot conditions.

Expert Reviews

Fermented in open stainless steel tanks with daily pump overs, matured in new and used French oak for 12 months. The bright crimson hue signals a fresh, juicy/spicy red fruit shiraz, and a gently savoury finish. Raring to go. Rating 90 - Drink by 2018, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (JAN/2015).

Pitchfork Range

The modern Australian food and lifestyle needs modern Australian wine. Friends and family, casual dining, good primary food ingredients presented simply so as to highlight the quality of the produce. The wine needs to complement this experience and should be clean and bright expressing the quality of the fruit not secondary influences of fermentation, oak and other processing gimmicks. The modern Australian food and lifestyle needs modern Australian wine - there is no better source of modern Australian wine than off an old Australian vineyard.

The Pitchfolk range is on song at present.

Rises attractively as it rests in the glass. Hits up with oak but has the fruit to match. Plums, blueberries, fresh cedarwood, a gentle rub of herbs. Medium-weight in a good way. Slightly warm, but it gets away with it. Good value. Well polished. Benefits from a quick double-decant. Rating 90 - Drink by 2019, Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au (SEP/2015).
