Wine Summary Image

The “Premium Reserve” label is allocated to only the most outstanding wines. Peter Jorgensen hand selects truly premium, benchmark wines with rich fruit intensity, complex flavours and structure combined with their long term aging ability. All Premium Reserve wines are an expression of excellent vineyard management and winemaking. The resulting wines are limited and are treated with minimal filtration and additives which result in great length and balance. They are wines that take time to evolve and the aging process will continue in bottle. This GSM will develop a light bottle crust over time. Please allow this wine to “breathe” after opening and we recommend decanting or splashing prior to drinking.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

The appearance is a dark cherry red with a dense, opaque centre and garnet rim. The intense alcohol leaves the glass coated with long viscous “legs”.

Aroma

The initial bouquet is fragrant and aromatic with hints of rose petal and ripe raspberry. As the wine opens up it reveals more earthy characters of dried herbs and cedar wood with distinctive Barossa aromas of sweet alcohol and generous ripe berry fruit.

Palate

The opening palate is packed with dark berry and plum fruit that quickly develops into a layer of pepper and anise spices. The mid palate is well proportioned with lively acid and firm, finely textured tannins. It has sumptuous mouth-feel with savoury complexity and supple finish. The abundance of flavour is supported by solid structure, texture and generous body. It is an ageworthy wine with great depth and length of palate. Like many of the wines from 2013 it is just starting to show signs of what’s to come.

Food Matching

This wine is warm and approachable with a big robust heart and powerful structure. It makes a great match with prime Angus steak, slow roasted lamb and savoury beef casseroles, without dominating the flavour. It has finesse and balance which brings out the best across a range of cuisine styles. Try it with Italian meatballs and pasta.

Cellaring Potential

Peter Jorgensen’s Premium Reserve wines are selected for their longevity and depth of character. This Grand Barossa GSM, a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre will stand the test of time and age for many years to come, continuing to develop earthy spice and deep mocha flavours.
