Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz Estate has a baking spice laced, peppery nose with red cherry, black raspberry and kirsch notes. Light to medium-bodied, it is a lovely example of a spicy / peppery cool-climate Shiraz with tons of red berry characters supported by rounded tannins and lively acid, finishing with great persistence. Rating 90+ - Drink by 2020, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (MAR/2016).

Aroma/Palate

A medium-bodied wine with complex spice and white pepper, soft plum, cherry, violets and a dense core of dark fruit. This wine embodies the structural and layered elegance that Great Southern Shiraz is known for; illustrating a well balanced use of savoury, dusty oak, which combined with tight acid structure provides great length and character.

Winery Profile

Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. In 1968 in a stroke of serendipity English migrant Tony Smith, himself a descendent of the Plantagenet's, invested his small inheritance in a farm called Bouverie in Western Australia’s Plantagenet Shire.

He first planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Riesling three years later.

The first wines from these young vines were tight and lean and showed the elegant spice and fruit characters for which this area was to become known.
