Wine Summary Image

The Port Phillip Estate Salasso Rose is produced from 3.87 hectares of estate Pinot Noir.

Salasso means ‘bleeding the juice’ in Italian and this Rosé is made from Pinot Noir vines with an average age of 12 years. The fruit is whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented without yeast inoculation in a mix of old French oak and concrete tanks. Once dry, the wine is left ‘sur lie’ for several months prior to bottling.

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

A beautiful salmon hue.

Aroma

Bright, fresh and very pretty aromas of rose petal

Palate

On the palate the wine is vibrant and lively, its fresh acidity perfectly balancing the intense red berry and strawberry fruit. The wine is dry on the palate, with fine, powdery tannins. Very good length and complexity on the finish.

Winery Profile

The Port Phillip Estate winery, James Halliday's 2012 Winery of the Year, is situated at Red Hill in the heart of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Owned by the Gjergja family, winemaking is overseen by winemaker, Sandro Mosele.

Surrounded by mounds of native grasses and indigenous spotted gums, the new Port Phillip Estate winery, designed by Wood Marsh Architecture, emerges from the landscape as a dramatic curved sculpture made of rammed-earth. Inside, a large cellar door and tasting room, and a light-filled restaurant open out on to an expansive outdoor deck. Underneath, state-of-the-art winemaking facilities - a barrel room, bottling line, wine processing plant, cellaring and offices - share space with six luxury accommodation suites, complete with private decks. Views across the vines to the sea are panoramic.
