Wine Summary Image

The grapes are from two vineyards, one near Lenswood and the other at Charleston in the Adelaide Hills. The vines in both were shoot thinned to give moderate crops and good fruit exposure to sunlight.

The fruit from both vineyards was hand picked, chilled overnight and whole bunch pressed. 25% was fermented in French oak hogsheads and barriques (15% new) and was put through malolactic. It was then reblended with the fresh tank fermented portions to provide a balance of fruit and complexity.

This variety, whether it's named gris or grigio, can confound drinkers with its many variables of freshness and texture, but here you get a familiar green-skinned pear burst of aromas, white nectarine and faint tropical notes as well. Aroma/Palate

The Stiletto glides gently along the palate with fresh cuts of nashi pear and honeysuckle florals resolving in a final stab of spice. Supple rich, mouth filling fruit leads to a finely honed finish of crisp acidity.

THE Label

The dictionary definition of ‘Riposte’ (pronounced rip-posst) is comeback, reply, retort, or in the context of the sport of fencing a quick counter stroke. After over a decade of confusion about his name, ‘Riposte’ was chosen as an appropriate name for a ‘comeback label’ by Tim Knappstein.

The Sword Name - `The Stiletto`

‘The Stiletto’ was popular as a concealed weapon much favoured by assassins in the 17th & 18th centuries. The stiletto is long and thin with a sharp point and a triangular or four sided blade. A stabbing, not a cutting weapon, it gives its name to the long thin heel on ladies’ shoes.

With 40 years of winemaking and more than 500 wine show awards under his belt, Tim started yet another new wine life with Riposte, a subtle response to the various vicissitudes he has suffered in recent years. While having no continuing financial interest in Lenswood Vineyards,established many years ago,Tim is able to source grapes from it and also makes selections from other prime sites in surrounding areas.
