Wine Summary Image

A very cool growing season with limited sunlight and plenty of rain. Harvesting days were very well planned to avoid constant rain threats. Cooler days allowed the fruit to retain a natural high acidity. Fruits were harvested during the day due to cooler temperatures than usual.

Destemmed only, whole berries were pumped to fermenter. Gentle handling of the ferment was critical due to the finesse and delicacy provided by the cool vintage. Pressing immediately post ferment, or prior to ferment reaching dryness, to minimise big tannin extraction, wines were racked into french oak and stainless steel tank.

Matured for approximately 8 months on malolactic fermentation lees, before a racking and return for a further 5 months maturation prior to final blending. Bottled with minimal fining and filtration.

Sticks Yarra Valley Pinot Noir is a lighter style wine with cherry, plum and raspberry flavours and a savoury finish.

Aroma

Alluring sweet cherry fruit aroma stands out with some earthy, savoury notes in the background.

Palate

The palate is suave and silky but uncomplicated. Mild tannins lend a somewhat dry edge to a very handy and versatile wine.

Sticks Yarra Valley is beautifully situated on a single site in the picturesque Yarra Valley, an hour’s drive from Melbourne. The Winery and Cellar Door, which are nestled in to the base of the Christmas Hills, have unparalleled views of the Estate vineyard and Great Dividing ranges.

Standing at six foot six, our founding winemaker, Rob Dolan was given the nickname ‘Sticks’ during his days as a dual premiership player for the Port Adelaide Aussie Rules Football Club. Rob pulled together a young, vibrant and highly regarded winemaking team who have continued on with Rob's commitment to making fresh, fruit driven cool climate wines. Let's just say the winemaking team are as passionate about the sticks in the vineyard as Rob is about his footy!

Our Winemaker, Travis Bush, is dedicated to producing exceptional cool climate wines showing depth and regional expression.
