Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aromas of perfumed red fruits, cherry, blackberry and sweet oak in the background.

Palate

The palate is medium bodied with bright red fruit, fresh berries and vanillin. Hints of spice and cardamom follow. The finish is long with silky, even tannins and lengthy acidity. Part of the feature of Sangiovese is the dry savoury tannin structure.

Winery Profile

George Sandow a Cornish miner came to Burra to find his fortune and decided on farming as his path. In 1854 he purchased 80 acres on land at Honeysuckle Flat near Watervale and named it “Trelawney”, the ensuing generations have continued farming the land to a variety of stock and crops. The original 80 acres has expanded both in size and in diversity. In 1998 the Sandow family decided to diversify their business into viticulture and planted vines on some of the land near Honey Suckle Flat. On the rich Terra Rosa Soil of the area Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Riesling were planted. The versatility and size of our business allows flexibility to complement our contract grapes sales with our emerging wine business. Premium parcels of all varieties along with modern and experienced winemakers are used to create wines that are handcrafted from vineyard to bottle and are typical of the Clare Valley.
