Wine Summary Image

About the name; G1-10. We quite liked the technical sound of this (a Chardonnay clone? a cultured yeast?), but it is in fact Biblical. From Genesis 1-10: “And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas: and God saw that it was good.” Now we aren’t pushing creationism or any ‘isms’ here, but with a vineyard in some prime earth and with sea views from the winery, we reckon we know how he must have felt and liked the simplicity of it. Sitting on a hill staring out to sea at the end of the day with a nice glass of Chardonnay in hand, it really is…..good

Expert Reviews

Estate-grown on contiguous blocks; hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, wild yeast-fermented in French oak, plus 9 months maturation in that oak. The approach has worked very well, giving the best of both worlds; the texture is a significant part of the wine but so is the vibrant mix of citrus, and tropical fruits. Rating 95 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2015

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

Pale green with hints of straw.

Aroma

Boom – not a shy or feminine style. It initially reeks of rose petals, funky tropical holiday fruits and curry leaf. After 10 minutes in the glass it settles back to show regional typicity for the variety – ripe white fleshed stonefruit, citrus pith and blossom. With more time still, the limey signature of Chardonnay from our vineyard really comes further to the fore.

Palate

Weighty and woolly – it’s a pretty big mouthful of quince, exotic tropical fruits and soft, ripe stonefruits to start. Like the nose, the palate fines up and becomes more citrus focussed in both flavour and feel as the wine breathes. The mid-palate has some yoghurt creaminess and the finish has a little oatmeal tannin and is highlighted by a twist of limey acidity.

Cellaring

It definitely benefits from some air in its youth, and its vivid green now suggests it is a baby. We said 2018 on the label, but that is likely to be conservative.

Medals & Trophies

Gold Medal, 2014 Geographe Wine Show

Silver Medal, Qantas Wine Show of Mt Barker

Winery Profile

Willow Bridge Estate is family owned and operated by principals Jeff and Vicki Dewar, who bought the picturesque 180-hectare hillside property in 1996 after an exhaustive search of the state for the ideal vineyard site from which to realize their shared vision of producing world class wines which are both opulent and accessible. The estate is located in a hidden jewel of an area known as the Ferguson Valley which, at that time, was home to only a few small vineyards. Immediately planting 60 hectares of vines and then building a state of the art winery (the first winery in the area) in time for their first vintage in 2000, established Willow Bridge as the pioneering estate of the area and demonstrated the family’s confidence in the property and resolve to see their vision become reality.

From the release of their very first wines, their efforts were quickly rewarded with critical acclaim, wine show success and most importantly, glowing feedback from wine lovers.
