Born and raised in the artistic city of Melbourne, Australia, Mendo is a professional full time Contemporary Abstract Artist. His precocious talent started by drawing as a child which led to street art, graphic design and industrial design, eventually finding a home in studio art. The former Microbiologist (Honors) threw away the lab coat to put back on his painters jacket to pursue his lifes passion, Abstract Art. Due to compliments received, Mendo set up a market stall in South Bank, Melbourne for 2 years with online & commissioned artworks becoming the focus soon after. Mendo dabbled in short films for a few years, won a few awards, jumped into the Melbourne Fringe Festival but didnt like the industry structure.
“My biggest journey has been the constant mastering of paint! This is what really gets me going. I have played with so many paints for so many years that I can tell the different properties of each brand and what they do best, a splat is no longer a splat. The great thing is as I learn more, the better Im able to express myself with the colour spectrum. Its been a great journey that I hope you will follow. The relationship I have with the paint is mutual, we help one another. I tell it what to do, and it tells me what its going to do. I fight hard to keep my techniques a secret as I have taught myself a majority of what you see. I prefer to keep my own styles and dont like people that copy...why paint something that has already been done, no-one is going to look at you twice if they see similar works every week. I must admit to many beautiful mistakes that have introduced me to many new techniques. Who ever thought dropping things was going to be such a blessing.
