La Conquista! Tempranillo Garnacha Graciano 2015 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Description:

Viticulture - The Tempranillo (64%) comes from two vineyards: one on silty soil set next to the Tanunda golf course, the other in the richer clay and brown earth soils of Nuriootpa. The Grenache (22%) is from the famous sandy Vine Vale region and from the blue-chip foothills at the top of Krondorf Road with up to 70+ years of vine age. Finally the Graciano (14%) is from recently planted vines in the limestone-rich soils of the northern Eden Valley.

Vinification - Fermentation takes place in open fermenters with 7 days of maceration before pressing into barrels. A relatively higher pH is tolerated for the Tempranillo as we anticipate the natural acidity of the Grenache and Graciano will offset this in the ultimate blend. Barrels are mostly used French and American hogsheads (300L), where they mature separately for about 7 months only, before bottling.

Expert Reviews

"It’s a fiery blaze of flavour too. If you’ll allow me to suggest; this is money well spent. It’s smoky and sordid and jubey and twiggy, all at once; it spins you around like a Luna Park ride, the combination of sweetness/savouriness/smokiness/spiciness managed quite beautifully. One thing it most definitely is not: boring. And yet it’s immaculately clean to boot" - Campbell Mattinson (WineFront) 92 Points

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

This is a vinous rematch of the original 1811 Napoleonic battle at Barrosa Ridge near Cadiz - the scene from which the Barossa valley derives its name. Now the Spanish grape varieties are invading the Barossa's old soils, which had previously been planted with old guard French varieties only. This is Barossa Rioja... if you know what we mean!

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. is Barossa rebooted.

Our wines make statements as bold as their avant-garde labels! Minimal intervention winemaking emphasises pure structured fruit and utilises the lost art of judicious small batch blending. The wines we make are the styles that epitomise the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

Winemaker Daniel Chaffey Hartwig is the most recent of the Chaffey Brothers’ descendants to ply the ancient trade. Barossa born and bred, he was immersed in the wine business from an early age and spent 11 years working as a wine consultant to Australia’s leading winemakers. The birth of Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. represents the fruition of a life long dream. In 2012 Daniel was joined by brother-in-law Theo Engela as the other “Chaffey Brother”.
