Not Your Grandma's" Rosé 2017 (6 x 750mL) Barossa

Description:

Viticulture - Made from Grenache (66%) from three 30 to 60 year old vineyards taking in the southern Barossa Valley (Lyndoch foothills) and from two northern Barossa Valley parishes (Stockwell and Moppa). We use the Mourvèdre (25%) as the spice rack in this blend. It comes from two special vineyards, one in the western Barossa Valley (Gomersal) and one in the north (Ebenezer). Finally, we add a splash of our Eden Valley field blend incorporating Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Kerner grown in limestone rich soil. The final product reflects a wide range of microclimates and geological distinctions that makes for complexity.

Vinification - Made as a true rosé, we pick each vineyard with a view to retaining natural acidity and relying on the ancient vines to supply ample flavour despite the early harvest. Each vineyard will see between 6 - 18 hours skin contact, which during this early ripeness imparts only modest colour to the blend. Cold fermented in a temperature controlled inox fermenter using a combination of indiginous and selected yeasts to develop and protect delicate aromas. As a stylistic choice, we do not use any fining throughout the winemaking process and only minimal SO2 is added prior to bottling.

Producer Note - Welcome to the Rosé Revolution! Rosé was once a sweet, coloured white wine or the by-product of red wine production - now it's a style of its own. Lovingly crafted from real old vines of real rosé varieties!

Expert Reviews

Rating 92 - Campbell Mattinson Halliday Wine Companion Published 01 February 2018

In perfect drinking shape. Dry, racy with acidity and flavoursome at once. Raspberry and rosehip with cuts of apple and anise. Gets you in a mind for food.

Gary Walsh (Winefront) 91 Points Very clever, and interesting. Has a slight sweatiness over musk, redcurrant and raspberry, a scattering of dried herb in the background. Light bodied, crisp and fresh, pretty red fruit flavour, pleasing mouth-perfume, a dusting of talc-like texture, an almost limey finish. Nicely done. Good drink." -

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Grenache contributes the raspberry and strawberry palate while Mourvèdre adds structure and a lingering spice. The splash of our aromatic field blend emphasises strawberry, musk and turkish delight aromas.

Not just for summer! Enjoy with all foods, from Spencer Gulf prawns to poultry and charcuterie. Early picking allows for a textural mouthfeel, luminous rose-diamond colour and crisp natural acidity giving great length. Grenache contributes the red berry and strawberry palate with Mourvèdre adding structure and lingering spice.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. is Barossa rebooted.

Our wines make statements as bold as their avant-garde labels! Minimal intervention winemaking emphasises pure structured fruit and utilises the lost art of judicious small batch blending. The wines we make are the styles that epitomise the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

Winemaker Daniel Chaffey Hartwig is the most recent of the Chaffey Brothers’ descendants to ply the ancient trade. Barossa born and bred, he was immersed in the wine business from an early age and spent 11 years working as a wine consultant to Australia’s leading winemakers. The birth of Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. represents the fruition of a life long dream. In 2012 Daniel was joined by brother-in-law Theo Engela as the other “Chaffey Brother”.
