Happy Holidays from GraysOnline. See here for Christmas hours.
This wine is from a single barrel (300 litre French oak Hogshead) continuing a tradition from my early years working with Len Evans at Rothbury Estate. One barrel from the best batch of the years crush is held aside for extra maturation. It’s topped regularly but essentially remains an individual batch of only 388 bottles.
Generous Barossa richness oozes from this big, richly flavoured Shiraz. It has warm rustic charm, great length and a complex fruit, oak and tannin structure it has the subtle elegance and sophistication of premium oak which is the hallmark of the “Single Barrel collection”. It’s a wine for a special occasion.

Colour
The colour is deep burgundy red with subtle mahogany notes and cherry red edges.
Aroma
The bouquet jumps out of the glass with lovely, intense French oak (medium plus toast) caressing blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit. The aroma is sweet and rich with earthy spices delivering complexity and sophistication.
Palate
This is a solid and assertive wine with a full, rich palate. It opens with plums and berries then builds with licorice, tobacco and leather overtones. Tannins are plump and juicy with an overarching component of toasty, spicy oak. It has a background of dusty pepper and earthy spice. Balanced and long on the finish, it has a velvety texture and chocolaty aftertaste.
Food Matching
This is a big wine with a velvety sophistication. Slow cooked lamb shanks, thick juicy steaks and rich roasted duck are excellent food pairings while firm cheeses and water crackers are ideal after the meal.
Cellaring Potential
This is a big wine which will develop slowly over many years and provide rewarding drinking for 8 + years if cellared carefully.
