Wine Summary Image

Un-grafted Malbec vines planted in 1929 enjoy an abundant source of clean, run-off water from the river and a longer ripening season thanks to the region’s cooler temperatures. Over the years, this vineyard has used a Guyot system with narrow rows and low trellises, irrigation provided by furrows running down the slope, a method used by the immigrants who started the industry in Mendozas province. This irrigation method brings silt and clay that retain moisture so less irrigation is used.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOR

Intense red with purple hues.

TASTE

Kind, aromatic and fresh. Its precise tannins provide great softness and presence in the mouth.

Marked floral character with aromas of violets laced with red and black fruit notes and subtle hints of chocolate. The bouquet is completed with delicate toasty notes and aromas of tobacco from the well-integrated oak.

FOOD PAIRING

Ideal to pair with red grilled meat and hard cheeses.

Winery Profile

Founded in 1999 by Bodegas Chandon, a subsidiary of Moët Hennessy in Argentina, Terrazas de los Andes derives its name from the "terrazas", a series of terraces at the foothills, or Cordilleras, of the Andes.

These terraces range in altitude from 600 to 1500 meters. Each grape variety - the prestigious Malbec, the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Torrontes and the Chardonnay - is planted at the ideal altitude to ensure optimum conditions for the grapes to grow to maturity and produce wines with remarkable structure and concentration.

Considered as one of the best wineries in the world by the international press, Terrazas de los Andes has in just a few years become a leading name in super-premium Argentine wines. Its wines are exported to 40 countries.

It was quite natural that Terrazas de los Andes was selected by Cheval Blanc, the renowned Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" Saint-Emilion château in Bordeaux, for a prestigious joint venture that has led to the creation of a truly exceptional Argentine grand cru wine, Cheval des Andes.
