he distinction, elegance and power of Langhorne Creek is expressed enticingly in Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz. Evolving since the first 1967 blend, it remains constant in the quality, character and style that is Grey Label.

Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz was sourced from a region as unique as the character it bestows upon the wine. The vineyards of Langhorne Creek lie on deep, rich, alluvial soils along the banks of the Bremer River. Flooding of the river provides natural irrigation while at the same time depositing silts and sediments that contribute to the unique soil qualities, impacting the resultant wine’s character and personality.

Individual vineyard batches were fermented in small open-top fermenters for 5 to 10 days. Plunging and gentle irrigation were used to work the cap and optimise flavour, colour and tannin extraction, providing for concentration and depth of fruit, while keeping tannins plush, hallmarks of the Grey Label style. Selected batches completed fermentation in barrel, contributing mid-palate texture, while others finished fermentation on skins, providing structural length and focus.

Expert Reviews

HUON HOOKE - 93 Points

"Deep, dark red colour with a good tinge of purple, the bouquet showing blackberry and subtle background earthy, spicy and graphite nuances. The cabernet shows through strongly the longer it's in the glass. The wine is full-bodied and smoothly textured with very good line and length, the tannins more refined than in the Grey Label shiraz. A stylish wine, and not minty. (14% alc.)"

Winery Tasting Notes

NOSE

A rich, dark fruit profile of black cherry and cassis, complexed with subtle mineral notes and savoury oak.

FLAVOURS AND PALATE

Layers of black and red berry fruits, mineral nuances, warm spice and subtle savoury oak. The palate has richness yet finesse, lengthened by finely textured tannins.

Award Winning Winery

Wolf Blass Wines has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world's most successful and awarded wineries.

Wolf Blass was created in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

In researching the name Bilyara, Wolf learned it was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk" and given the eagle was also the national emblem of Germany, he decided his wines would carry the Eagle - a legacy that continues today and into the future.

Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies with Black Label, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

From this time onwards, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning a grand total of more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.

Wolf Blass Wines have a tradition of quality, character and consistency from the refined and elite Platinum Label, and the majestic and complex Black Label through to delicate Rieslings and crisp Chardonnays.

Winemakers

Wolf Blass winemakers are an award winning winemaking team, continuously striving for the ultimate in excellence, character and integrity. "The sum of all parts should still be a better result than the quality of each individual part, otherwise why blend at all" - Chris Hatcher Chief Winemaker.
