Expert Reviews

93 Points James Halliday's Wine Companion 2018 "A curious reference to shiraz viognier smelling like a lady's handbag and tasting like a man's wallet in the background blurb - this is from a single block, fermented in stainless steel vats and open fermenters,

thence to new and used French hogsheads for 12 months maturation. The most juicy, expansive and supple medium-bodied wine of the three '15 Zonte's Footstep Shiraz siblings, with both red and black fruits on display, the tannins soft but persistent. Its balance

and length are both very good."

92 Points WBM, March/April 2017 issue, Page 88

“Ripe, juicy slosh of dark and red berry fruitiness. Joyous stuff. It's strong in berry jam scents with a sprinkle in green herbs, gum leaf and splintery oak. Theres a faint peanut brittle character amongst the plush fruit character to taste. All in all, it's one of those

generous reds that will satisfy a legion. (Reviewed by Mike Bennie)”

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep purple with a royal purple hue.

Nose: Pepper spice and a hint of macerated dark berry fruit. Plum pudding and blackberry pie with just a whaft of violets.

Entry: Rich and soft and fragrant red fruits. Some tangy cedar and dried spice characters.

Middle Palate: Juicy round blackberry sweetness, tempered with clotted crema texture with taught, but typical Shiraz tannin.

After Palate: A basket full of juicy fruit flavour that fans out in the mouth with rolling soft, fine grained fruit tannin.

Finish: Malt, cedar and intense blackberry. Minutes later, the flavour still lingers.

In Summary: This is the thirteenth consecutive vintage of this wine. Though it will drink great now, especially with anything off the grill, it should cellar well as previous vintages.

Winery Profile

Zonte's Footstep is a proudly independent Australian wine company. We take our vineyards and our wine, but not ourselves, seriously.

In 2003 we pooled old white utes and new-ish tractors to grow the best grapes from the best vineyards and the wines are now at the vanguard of a revolution of Australian wine styles.

A couple of wine scribes recently noted; "The critically acclaimed Zonte's Footstep wines are not ‘old world', nor even ‘new world', Zonte's is out of this world!" and "Zonte's Footstep; Jump on board this fabulously priced wine and enjoy one of the best value wines in the Southern Hemisphere." Matthew Jukes

Zonte's Footstep is named after a 19th century Zante currant vineyard, as new plantings follow the original footstep. The currant business dried up, but Zonte's Footstep became our blueprint...

All we want to do is taste our fruit in our wine, so we charged our reigning winemaker, Mr. Ben Riggs, with one goal; to make the best wines we can, true to vineyard and variety, so long as we make a bloody good drink!

“The truth is out there in the vineyard... but the proof is in the bottle”
