Expert Reviews

92 pts - Angus Hughson (The Wine Pilot)

Long time Marlborough producer Allan Scott has seen it all, from the early days of Marlborough through to its now global superstar status. And in that time his Chardonnay has never changed. It’s no wishy washy, modern style – this is your classic oak bomb fermented and aged in French oak barrels to craft a wine that is full of flavour. It is golden in colour, with guava, honeysuckle and citrus fruits plus lots of spicy vanillin oak to match. It is dry, full-bodied and powerful which is all kept in balance by very crisp acidity driving to a long and bright finish, again backed by some toasty oak. Old fashioned and oaky Chardonnay at its best.

Winery Tasting Notes

A luxurious Marlborough Chardonnay, displaying typical mineral notes from the Wairau Valley. The stone fruit, pear and almond aromas are rounded off with a scrumptious mouth feel from its time in oak. Don’t let a perfectly matched seafood chowder or avocado and tuna tapas stop you from enjoying this wine. It is flawlessly delicious on its own.

Winery Profile

Our family has a reputation of producing wines consistent in flavour and quality year after year. We attribute our success to excellent growing conditions, hard work and a desire to produce the world's best wines.

Allan Scott Family Winery has several vineyards situated in two of the world’s most prestigious growing regions - Marlborough and Central Otago, New Zealand. As the owners of our own vineyards and winery we have control of our product, from the growing on our vines and the harvesting of our grapes to the bottling and marketing of our wines.

MARLBOROUGH

The Allan Scott Family Winery Marlborough vineyards are situated close to our winery and restaurant complex in the Rapaura area of the Wairau Plains. The gravelly soils that predominate are perfectly suited to the production of the aromatics; Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer. Traditionally made Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is also produced.

CENTRAL OTAGO

Situated in breathe taking scenery on the main road between Wanaka and Queenstown the Allan Scott Family Winery, Scott Base, grows predominantly Pinot Noir, with small plots of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

4 stars - Winestate

Unfolding well, this rich, smooth wine was hand-picked in the Wairau Valley and fermented and aged for eight months in French oak puncheons. Mouthfilling, it has strong, ripe stonefruit flavours, gently seasoned with toasty oak, a hint of butterscotch and a slightly creamy texture.
